Baltic Amber FAQs

What is Baltic Amber?

Baltic Amber is a fossilized tree resin and comes in a variety of shapes and colours. Baltic Amber is made for wearing (not chewing or ingestion). Amber contains succinic acid, a natural analgesic and healing agent. Amber will warm against your body and the succinic acid will be absorbed through your skin helping with pain relief.

Used for centuries, Baltic Amber has been used for a variety of ailments from teething pain to arthritis. Scientific research has shown that succinic acid has a very positive influence on the human body. It improves immunity and the balance of acids when absorbed into the bloodstream, it stimulates the thyroid glands to help reduce drooling and soothe inflammed areas. Amber's anti-inflammatory and therapeutic properties are recognised by allopathic medicine as a natural analgesic (pain reliever), which can help to relieve many painful conditions.

What size do I need?

The small 10-11" or 11" necklace most generally fits a child until 12-24 months. The 13" necklace may be needed for a larger child. As the child grows, check the necklace to ensure it is still the correct size. The necklace should fit loose enough around the neck so you can insert two or three fingers but you should not be able to get the necklace above the child's chin so the necklace cannot be put in his/her mouth. The amber beads MUST NOT BE PUT INTO THE MOUTH OR CHEWED.

Each bead on our necklaces are individually knotted so if the necklace does break, the beads stay intact. Customers have the option of either a screw clasp or a pull-apart clasp. Both are designed to strip and pull open at a minimum 15 lbs pull force for ten seconds to prevent choking if one tugs or pulls on it. As with all jewelry, Baltic amber should only be worn and used under direct supervision of an adult.
The 10-11" Baltic amber is the perfect size for adult anklets. So as the child outgrows the necklace, the amber can find a new home on mom's ankle.

The following are the sizes and average ages for our Baltic Amber Jewelry.  However, it is always best to try on the jewelry to ensure a correct fit.

5-6" - bracelet for up to age 2
7"-9" - adult bracelet (anklet for small ankles)

Do some colors work better than others?

Genuine Baltic Amber contains 3-8% succinic acid (and only Baltic Amber).  There are many sites that claim one is better then the other.  We have not been able to find any true studies to prove that one colour has 3% and another has 8%.  Many people think that the lighter the colour the better, but many others say darker is better.  Without ‘proof’ that one has more succinic acid then the other, the only way we can make judgements is by our client testimonials.  Lucky for you (and us), ALL of our amber has had rave reviews for helping with pain!!  So, please, buy the design that you love the most.  If you still aren’t sure, we have many different designs that have several different colours so you get the best of both worlds!! What is the difference between POP and screw clasps?

A POP clasp slides in and out using friction.  A screw clasp requires twisting.  Both are designed to open or break away with pressure.
What is the difference between polished and raw beads?
ALL of our amber is raw amber, it is in it's natural state.  When you see us describe a necklace or bracelet as 'raw', it means that it has a matte finish.  The rest of our amber has been polished to shine through a tumbling process)!  If you purchase a raw piece, it will end up looking polished over time.  (1)
